Would you like some tapas with your wine?

There seems to be a theme here on this blog. Okay, fine…many themes. In this case, I’m about to hit on at least three: I clearly tend to like ye olde things. I clearly love my wine. (Don’t judge.) And I have an absurd relationship with charcuterie and cheese. Can you blame me?

This place is special. Tucked away in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, this little gem is all about the wine (and the tapas, and the charm, and all that good stuff). La Vinateria del Call is the oldest wine bar in Barcelona and it does no wrong. In fact, it does a helluva lot of good. Their impressive wine list has both full and half bottles to try and they are very reasonably priced. They also have some fabulous tapas.

One little treat, in particular, that my friend could not stop raving about were their cheese croquettes. If you like stinky, blue cheese, then you absolutely MUST get them. Potent. Briny. Creamy. Perfect. They also have the tapas greatest hits…like some of the best Iberian chorizo I have ever had, delicious pimientos de Padrón, a crazy amount of Spanish quesos, pan con tomate, tender pulpo, various types of tortillas…basically everything you should ever want in life.

Worth noting, this little jewel box is really quite hidden and mobile reception in those windy Gothic passageways can get spotty. So, mind your street names and follow your nose! You’ll make it and it’ll be worth it. Just be a lamb and keep this gem to yourself. It’s small. Save me a seat.
